In the future, teams will start the renovation project for a maternity clinic for indigenous women and more. Summit in Honduras is committed to hiring young Honduran men and women to work on our projects, paying them a salary, and teaching them usable skills.

Summit in Honduras receives incredible support from our family at St. John’s and our entire community and friends; we are eternally grateful. Visit the Summit in Honduras website or contact Maggie Ducayet for more information at 970-453-8369.

Work on the reservation includes building outhouses, ramps for limited mobility individuals, mobile home skirting, and bunk beds.  Also, there is always gardening work to be completed.

Re-Member: Working with the Oglala Lakota Sioux on the Pine Ridge Reservation

Since 2020, members of St John’s have volunteered on the Pine Ridge Reservation through Re-Member. Parishioners enjoy a week of service and learning. Each visit is life changing as we learn from the elders and tribal people about the life they must live on the reservation. Learning comes from the Lakota elders who speak each evening to the volunteers. Participants pay for their involvement (approximately $775.00 for food, lodging, and transportation.) Many members of SJB contributed self-care items and clothing as well as financial contributions.

The volunteer experience with the Lakota people has become a growing and meaning part of the outreach at SJB. We encourage others to consider joining.

Please contact Carol Vagnini if you have questions.

Summit in Honduras

Summit in Honduras helps us join with rural communities in Honduras to collaborate on projects that contribute to the common good. These mission trips focus on medical, educational, and construction programs to help attain health and sustainability.  Projects the team has participated in include:

  • An ambulance (donated by our local Red, White, and Blue Fire Company) delivery by the US Air Force humanitarian program.

  • Renovation of school buildings in Valle Verde.

  • Eco Stove projects to provide clean burning, smokeless stoves.

  • Food support programs.
